The REALTORS® Political Action Committee (RPAC) is the voice of REALTORS®—and homeowners—in government. RPAC raises voluntary funds from REALTORS® and invests those funds to help elect candidates who understand and support real estate, property rights, and homeownership. This means advocating for policies that protect the value of your home, keep property taxes fair, preserve the right to buy and sell real estate freely, and promote strong, vibrant communities. By backing candidates who champion these priorities, RPAC ensures that both your business and your clients’ interests are represented when laws, ordinances, and regulations are being written.

A portion of the state's RPAC funds is forwarded to support national candidates.  For more information, please click here. RPAC only considers support of candidates in regards to their support of real estate and property rights issues. Georgia RPAC has contributed to Democrats, Republicans, and Independents.

how does rpac benefit your business?

Thanks to REALTOR® champions elected through RPAC and the advocacy of the GAR lobby team, REALTORS® across Georgia have seen key protections and legislative wins:

  • Legislation clarified that REALTORS® can legally assist with short sale transactions, overturning previous interpretations by the Georgia Banking Department that had created confusion and limited REALTOR® involvement in these deals.
  • A proposed 6% state sales tax on real estate commissions was blocked, preventing added costs for clients and preserving REALTOR® compensation.
  • The ability for REALTORS® to write special stipulations and offer guidance during contract negotiations was preserved, ensuring they can continue serving their clients’ best interests throughout the transaction.
  • During the COVID-19 pandemic, real estate was classified as critical infrastructure, and REALTORS® were recognized as essential workers.
  • GAR helped stop harmful legislation that would have capped and regulated real estate commissions earned by REALTORS®.
  • The statute of frauds was strengthened to ensure real estate contracts could not be rescinded or altered by oral agreement.
  • GAR helped pass legislation to better combat deed fraud and the predatory practices of wholesalers.
  • Legislation was passed to stop cities and counties from requiring individual agents to pay business license fees in every jurisdiction they serve.
  • GAR helped pass HB 399, requiring corporate landlords to use a Georgia broker or in-state staff, closing a loophole used by institutional investors.
  • GAR helped pass legislation to make the ejection of squatters a more direct and efficient process.
  • A proposal to require mandatory termite inspections prior to closing was defeated, preserving flexibility in real estate transactions.
  • The ability for REALTORS® to collect and distribute escrow funds was protected.
  • The Georgia Housing and Finance Authority’s bond limit was increased from $3 billion to $6 billion, expanding access to affordable homeownership through the Georgia Dream Program.
  • Property owners gained added legal protections through legislation that limits liability in certain trespass situations.

WHY CONTRIBUTE TO RPAC?

Are you concerned about....

  • The importance residential housing and commercial property has to our economic health
  • Maintaining a business environment that is conducive to the residential and commercial real estate profession
  • The failure of point of sale requirements in actually improving housing stock
  • The roadblock to homeownership which is created by increased transfer taxes
  • The need to find common sense solutions to the regulation of septic systems
  • Ensuring real estate commissions and real estate related services are not subject to the state sales tax

RPAC pursues the election and re-election of candidates for local, state, and federal offices who stand up and support real estate professionals on key issues like the above, as well as others, that are critical to our future.

As important as it is to be involved in your local community, it‘s equally important that REALTORS® are involved at the state and federal levels of government as well. Without your involvement, the real estate industry may face the prospect of bad legislation or a new set of crippling regulations. RPAC offers a variety of giving levels so that every REALTOR® can become involved in the political process. To get involved, donate or join the RPAC Committee (applications open Summer 2026).

broker involvement program

The BIP is a program open to broker-owners or managing brokers to stay informed of important issues affecting the real estate profession from NAR. Once a Call For Action (CFA) is released, NAR will alert brokers though e-mail and the CFA is automatically delivered to the broker's agents using the broker's name and logo in the message.
